Good food and most of all very healthy! It is the best cafe for me that Machynlleth has to offer. The salads are very nice and they do a good hummus, too.
The opening-times are a bit odd. Must find out if they are open on Sundays now. They never used to. In the afternoon they close at 4.30 so when you work you never have a chance to go there really.
You have to queue to order your food and drinks here which I do not like so much. In the winter it is either too cold or too hot inside.
The tables feel a bit sticky sometimes.
The notice board with local news is very informative.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 014 Jan 2008Previous reviewLeckeres Essen aus biologischem Anbau.
- Graham O.York, United Kingdom9106927 Aug 2013First to Review
Pleasant veggie cafe in Machynlleth. My Chili was kind of OK, but Mrs O's salad was excellent. Coffee is good.

3 miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) itself in the small town of Machynlleth is the Quarry Café. Named after the slate quarry and tip that CAT has emerged from, its café serves up wholesome and hearty hot dishes, cakes, salads and a range of hot and cold drinks. Wooden tables, a friendly and bustling atmosphere and noticeboards jammed with information about what's on in and around the area will keep you entertained should it start raining this is Wales afterall. But, if it's glorious sunshine, do everything the same but sit on one of the tables outside and watch the daily life of this eclectic town go by.

I love this place. I think the food is just so healthy and lovely. My kids were very happy to eat here. In fact we had lunch and then returned for tea!! My in laws had trouble getting the message about not taking a books worth of napkins but I don't think the place is too preachy. Great place to learn about what is going on in the area and plan you stay. Do agree the tables are a bit sticky. Only reason it doesn't get a five.
