On a rainy Tuesday the cinema at Cityside is the place to be. Any movie, any time including 3D is £3.50......bargain. Just seen Star Trek in 3D wow. Free parking also!!

This is the cinema I frequent the most...purely for financial reasons....
      - Free no hassle parking (sometimes if you can find a space)
      - Tuesday and Wednesday night promotions
      - 3D prices for the same price as 2D
      - Its cheaper all round
      - The best sweet popcorn...well that reasons not financial...well it is actually as buying popcorn elsewhere would be a waste of money. Do you ever buy sweet popcorn and only one in every twenty of the popped corns actually taste good and not like old warm card board. Well with movie house popcorn three in every four popped corns are as sweet as it can get...

Also another reason to go here is that they have the most choice...so if your taking a gamble you'll be more certain to find a flick you like.

There is nothing like heading to the cinema to see a good flick, and the Movie House Cinemas are a little Norn Iron group of cinemas that do the job. I'm actually quite a fan of them compared to other cinemas in Belfast, because they really do have some good points.

The parking is free, the sweets, popcorn, chocolate, ice cream, nachos (oh GOD how I love the nachos!) are all reasonably priced, and there are loads of screens and you can book in advance and avoid all the queues especially if there is a popular movie on.

What I don't like about it is there is a massive pile of stairs to get up in order to see your movie, it's like you have to prove you are fit enough to eat that massive pile of popcorn once you get to the top. The seating isn't quite as swanky or comfortable as the Odyssey cinema, but it's good enough, and they do Crazy Tuesdays - which sometimes really are Crazy - but good value for money.

Not a bad place to go to see Brad Pitt and wish you lived in Hollywood...

The Movie House collective are scattered throughout Belfast so everyone has got their 'local' pictures. My personal one would be the Dublin Road, which has a host of screens, two floors both of which have a huge concession area, a seated area upstairs that over looks the Belfast skyline and the chance for some really good offers (You can get a meal in a pub and a ticket for your film for £10). Back home, the cinema is an awful price and would almost put me off going. However, the Movie House in Belfast is a great place with great priced tickets and cinema priced food (not necessarily the cheapest) but all in all its a great evening out for all of the family.

Yorkgate cinema (sorry - Cityside) is a one of the bigger ones in the city, so I tend to go there quite a bit.

As a cinema, it's pretty good. There are something like 15 screens, and they show a good mix of movies. It's mostly clean (although can feel a little bit sticky sometimes).

I have my reservations about this place because on three occasions there have been problems with the projection. Two films I saw were totally out of focus for the first 10 or 15 minutes until I found a member of staff to fix the problem (surely whoever was in the projection room should have checked that?), then recently a film I was watching was too wide for the screen, so the ends of the image were cut off. Not a huge problem, but there was text on the screen that I was missing (very annoying!)

On the other hand, they do student discount, £3 tickets on Crazy Tuesdays and have a pick 'n' mix counter, so it's not all bad!

I had no problem with the cinema itself, but there was a lot of rowdy kids in the theatre. I complained to the staff that they were shouting, throwing popcorn and generally being a nuisance. And they were NOT 18.
Staff didn't do anything, which annoyed me.

The place itself is an average cinema. It's a good size, but as usual prices are extortionate although the sizes are good.

Has been refurbished within the past year so the place looks really well and has good seats and facilities. Some screens are a bit small but the experience is still good.

One of the cheapest cinema chains in Belfast too with no extra charge for a 3D film if you have your own glasses. Free parking is a bonus, but it can be busy on bingo night and especially on Tuesdays when it's only £3.

Movie House Cinemas, a string of cinemas across Northern Ireland, have been going for a long time here. Everyone grew up going to "the pictures". But the one in Yorkgate, in the north of the city, is the one the locals seem most fond of. It's a hell of alot cheaper than its' competitors and with fast food restaurants in close proximity as well as Brougham St train station and the City Centre a 10 minute walk away, it's the perfect venue to see the latest flick. The only warning I offer to visitors is to make sure they leave via private taxi at night as the area is known as a 'flashpoint' for sectarian tensions and can prove especially troublesome during the summer months.

Why you may ask did I go to this Yorkgate, north Belfast cinema as opposed to my local south Belfast branch on the Dublin Road? Well, i'll tell you why...

It had been two odd weeks since the release of the fourth Die Hard film was released. As poor as it looked I couldn't miss the chance to see the greasy sleeveless shirted New York cop kick some proverbial arse....

After reading the incorrect times, we landed down to find there was in fact no showing that day, so a taxi across he city was called for.

The Yorkgate cinema has many more screens than the Dublin Road branch, the problem is that seeing a film that is close to the end of its run means being forced into a box of a theatre.

It's cheap, it's usually very busy and some of the screens are laughable but still, there isn't a whole heap of competition within the city.
