I won the pub quiz here one Thursday: I think that says more about the quality of the teams than my brilliance, but I did get a bottle of vodka out of it. The Corona is a working man's pub: old fashioned, mostly populated by older drinkers and the doors have warnings against the wearing of football colours. But is a safe bar, getting busy at the weekend and, due to its proximity to the shed, popular with south side clubbers.

The range and price of alcohol is good, the service quick and it is not stifled by loud music: it is easy enough to get into random conversations at the bar. I can't say it is entirely my sort of pub, but the beer on tap is good and the atmosphere welcoming.

I wish I lived further away.

It's a shame that this bar's such a hole. It could very happily play on its 1912/13 build date and Shawlands architectural superiority to attract a varied city clientele, but it squats in discarded fag ends and sits soaked in cheap stale beer. A bit of a waste, in my book.

It takes a lot for me to pass a pub and obviously some people like it(?), but I tend to scuttle past when eyeing the emotionless bar staff and thinking about the p*shy toilets just increases my pace to a better place. That better place? Anywhere really

A very respectable pub where I go at least once a week when up visiting a friend in Battlefield. I get on and off at Crossmyloof station and Corona is very handy stopping post between the two points of call. Regrettably they have no Heineken but a very good pint of Amstel is served here. I have not tried food yet but menu looks good enough to serve anyone's appetite.
I am normally visiting midweek in between 7 PM and 10 PM when all is quiet, comfortable and music well relaxing.

The Corona is a traditional pub that has a huge range of customers from young trendy types to old geezers looking for a pint... or two. It's not fancy, it doesn't try to impress and it's really just a standard pub. You could head in here dressed up or just in scruffy old jeans and nobody would bat and eyelid.

A few years ago when I occasionally went to it's neighbour The Shed I would find myself in here for a couple of drinks before it opened. Due to the fact that it's so close to The Shed, The Corona is packed full of clubbers at the weekend and can get a bit lairy. I don't mean fighting or anything, it's usually just full of really annoying 18 year old guys trying to out drink each other to see who's man enough.

As I've only been at the weekend I can't comment on what it's like during week days but I can imagine it is a reasonable place to sit and have a drink if you're not looking for anything fancy.

This pub sticks in my mind due to it's name. It always makes me think of that "Rhythm of the Night" tune from nineteen-canteen or whenever. It can therefore be a bit disappointing to find that it's just a regular local's pub with bog standard decor and no thumping 90s Eurodance on the playlist.

That is except at the weekend, when it fills up with people on their way to The Shed. You're no doubt aware what the type of people who frequent said nightclub are like, so if you can be bothered sharing elbow room with them, then you'll no doubt have a ball.

This has been under new management for a while, but it still feels like a dated 80's style (as in last refurbished then, not as in cool retro 80's styling) pub and doesn't offer any real ales. It's handy for the Shed next door, but not much else.

Gorgeous on the outside, unpretentious (to put it politely) on the inside, this place has a relaxed, friendly vibe. The night we were there, they were blasting high-quality pop (Killers, Lady Gaga - that kind of thing), and the customers - people in their twenties to people in their sixties - all seemed to be having a great time. The beer selection is not particularly high-end, but it tastes like the lines to the kegs are clean and it's cheap. The signs outside say that they do Karaoke a couple of times a week, and I'm guessing it's a good laugh. Even though I'm a beer snob and wish they had a better tap list, I'd come back here for the fun, laid back atmosphere.
