I am an American who recently visited Scotland and wanted to purchase a kilt. I did a lot of searching in both Edinburgh and Stirling.

Many of the shops I visited were staffed by people who knew surprisingly little about how kilts should fit, fabric quality, etc. In some shops, it was assumed that I was not a serious buyer.

After an especially negative experience with an unhelpful saleswoman in Stirling, I finally found the kilt I wanted to buy just down the road at Clan Kilts Ltd. As it happened, it was an ex-hire heavyweight kilt being offered at an excellent price, so I felt I had really scored.... but it got even better!

I had already committed to buying the kilt, but the gentleman in the shop volunteered to replace the somewhat worn leather straps at no additional charge. He measured to make sure the new straps would be ideally placed. He even offered to have the kilt pressed. Because I already felt that I was getting such a great deal, I had not requested any of these services; they were all offered unexpectedly.

I had the kilt shipped home to the USA. The charges were extremely reasonable. The kilt was delivered very quickly, with new straps, etc, just as promised. I have never had better retail service anywhere in the world.

If Clan Kilts provides such excellent service to a tourist whom they're unlikely to see again, and who is buying a discounted item, I can only assume that they must bend over backward for their local repeat clientele.

Hired a kilt here for my sons first holy communion. Great professional service from the staff. Good choice of kilts, jackets and accessories to choose from. Only complaint was the white shirt had a stain on the collar which with a bit of elbow grease I managed to remove. Would definitely hire from here again!

Exceptional service, I purchased an ex-hire kilt along with shoes, shirt, flashes and a belt. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly and at no point did I feel pressured into buying anything I didn't want.
The kilt itself was very good quality with almost no damage (very good for ex-hire) and I would definitely use them again!

A few years ago now, we handed in my (now)husband's kilt for a wee re-adjustment and thought we had nothing better to do than wait for it to come back all shiny and new (and fitting properly, ahem!).
We waitedand waitedand waited, until I eventually (admittedly) lost the plot and complained that at this rate my husband wasn't going to be able to wear his own kilt to his own wedding, they were taking so long. It turns out that for the five weeks they'd already had the kilt they'd done nothing with it and as a result didn't have the time to do the alterations we needed. We were getting married the following week
Somehow, however, they managed a quick-fix and as we'd been waiting for so long they didn't charge us.
I do want to raise a further point though, now that the time has come for him to 'don the kilt again'. We've had the kilt assessed by another local company who have told us that the alterations that were done have indeed left the kilt looking well quite strange. The upshot is we've simply had to order another one up for him as the original one cannot be suitably fixed.
I'm quite prepared to believe that Clan were so busy they'd somehow forgotten about our request and of course we're grateful that we weren't charged, but that we now have to fork out for a replacement to 'fix' the issue is maybe a bit much to expect, they're hardly the cheapest of things.

Excellent service from this store. We hired nearly 10 kilts from here for my wedding and the service we received was fantastic. The guys all had to go in and get measured up which was a bit of a problem considering a few of them didn't even live local to the store. No problem they just had to email their details to the store and everything was sorted out. Some small problems when the outfits were picked up but they were sorted out very quickly and very efficiently. Would reccommend to anybody for their excellent service. They also have a wide variety of kilt/Scottish stuff at excellent prices.
